This is Snip, the loveliest snake that ever
was, or that ever will be, indeed!
She is a Corn Snake (Elaphe guttata guttata),
her receding - because of urban development - natural habitat is
the southeastern United States. They were named corn snakes
long ago by farmers who, finding lots of them in their corn stores,
wrongly assumed that they ate corn. Actually, they ate the
mice that ate the corn. Had the farmers known this they would
have sheltered them rather than kill them, which is what they did.
